Today all of the pupils have taken part in Road Safety workshops. It is so important to provide our children with an awareness of the roads and the skills they need to stay safe. Which brings me to the road outside our school… Stoke Wood Road can become very busy and potentially dangerous at school drop-offs and pick-ups. The neighbours around our school have been very patient and understanding (they often have to return balls and PE equipment to us!) but recently they have expressed concerns that despite the no-parking white lines outside their drives, some cars have been parked over the lines, on the pavements and have been making dangerous manoeuvres on their property. Please park with consideration and on the roads near to the school, we want to keep our children safe, and the neighbours happy. Please go round the block, using Lonsdale Road and Iddlesleigh Road, rather than attempting a turn in the road.
We had a double celebration on Thursday when two St Martin’s pupils received awards at the Mayors Poetry Competition. Tabitha (Year 4) was runner up in the KS2 category and Tanya (Year 6) won the main prize! The girls both read out their poems with confidence and poise, and were congratulated by the judging panel and mayor.
After the Jumble Sale/Vintage Fayre earlier in the year, some of the new items donated were collected for a care pack and sent on behalf of the school to displaced families in Iraq with the charity Samara’s Aid Appeal. The charity received the package with thanks and appreciated the support from St Martin’s.
Last week a new childcare scheme was launched by the government. It is called Tax-Free Childcare and allows working families some support with paying for childcare. As a school we have signed up for the scheme and are a registered provider, so it is worth checking to see if you are eligible at www.childcarechoices.gov.uk.
The proprietors would also like to introduce a new policy which acts as incentive for current families at St Martin’s to recommend our school to new pupils. If a new pupil is recommended and is admitted to St Martin’s you will receive a £200.00 discount off of your next bill.
